D’Amore-McKim is pleased to congratulate Ruth V. Aguilera, Distinguished Professor in International Business and Strategy, on her recent induction as Fellow to the Strategic Management Society (SMS). The ceremony took place in September at the 2018 Annual Meeting in Paris, France.

“I am very honored to be part of this very distinguished group of scholars,” says Aguilera. “I am humbled at the support of my colleagues all over the world, and it is my privilege to work alongside them.”

The Strategic Management Society comprises 3,000 members representing over 1,200 institutions and companies in over 80 countries. They seek to promote and encourage superior research and practice in the field of strategic management.

Aguilera was one of only three professors nominated and elected this year by existing SMS Fellows for their leadership, scholarship, and contribution to the field. With this appointment, Aguilera becomes the first D’Amore-McKim professor to earn this honor.

In 2016, Aguilera was also named as Fellow to the Academy of International Business (AIB), the leading association of scholars and specialists in the field of international business, making her one of only a handful of professors in the world to hold both prestigious titles. She is joined by D’Amore-McKim faculty colleagues Ravi Ramamurti and Alvaro Cuervo-Cazzura in receiving the honor of being named an AIB fellow.

Aguilera's research interests lie at the intersection of international business, economic sociology, and organization studies, with core foci in comparative corporate governance, corporate sustainability, and firm internationalization processes. Aguilera’s work has been published in top scholarly journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, and Strategic Management Journal, among others.

Prior to her election as Fellow, Aguilera spent three years on the SMS Board of Directors as the chair of the Membership Committee. Her major initiative in this role was developing diversity at SMS, a goal that she intends to continue pursuing as a Fellow.

“I intend to use my increased visibility as an SMS Fellow to continue my advocacy for launching progressive, innovative initiatives that foster a more robust and more equal track for leaders of all kinds, opening doors for more women and international members,” says Aguilera.

In addition to her appointment at D’Amore-McKim, Aguilera serves as Senior Editor at Organization Science, an Associate Editor at Corporate Governance: An International Review, a Consulting Editor at the Journal of International Business Studies, and sits on the editorial boards of SMJ, GSJ, AMR, AMP, and Organization Studies.
