Tax Breaks for Nonprofit Hospitals Called Into Question


Young-Gary-194x199While cities are still greatly suffering from the effects of the recession, the tax breaks given to nonprofit hospitals are being called into question. According to Gary Young, professor at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, “Nonprofit hospitals may have been founded on the basis of community need, but that doesn’t mean they’re not very profitable.” Hospitals are often the biggest landowners in cities, which costs the towns revenue.
