Research & Teaching Interests

Product development processes and tools that foster improved metrics such as time-to-market and commercialization success rates. Innovation, technology management, and product realization within early-stage companies. Design strategy and industrial design. Product platforms and product families. Manufacturing sourcing and cost modeling including outsourcing and offshoring.

Industry & Academic Experience

Professor Marion has over twenty years of experience in the design and launch of new technology products. He began his career at Ford Motor Company and Visteon Corporation where he was a Lead Engineer in electronics development and launch. After co-founding the consumer products company Innovation Factory in 2001, he founded FlashPoint Development, a boutique design and engineering firm where he headed development of consumer and technology products. He currently consults with technology firms on innovation processes and implementation. Professor Marion joined Northeastern in 2007, where he developed core graduate courses for the new School of Technological Entrepreneurship. In 2013, he lead the development and launch of the new Masters of Science in Innovation program. He is currently the faculty director of the MSc Innovation programs. His executive education classes include design thinking, lean innovation, rapid concept development and design, emerging technologies, and corporate entrepreneurship.
