Research & Teaching Interests

Dau's research examines how formal and informal institutional processes and changes shape the strategy and performance of emerging market firms and multinational enterprises. Formal institutions are the written or codified rules, such as laws, regulations, and policies, while informal institutions are the unwritten rules, such as social norms and traditions. His work analyzes how these institutions and institutional changes, such as pro-market reforms, affect firm internationalization, entrepreneurship, corporate governance, sustainability, and firm performance. His research is interdisciplinary, sitting at the intersection of international business, strategy, entrepreneurship, and international political economy. More recently, his work has extended to examine the effects of political ideology, privacy regulation, and artificial intelligence on international business. His research has appeared in leading journals including the Academy of Management JournalJournal of International Business StudiesJournal of Management StudiesJournal of World BusinessGlobal Strategy JournalEntrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Journal of Business Venturing, among others.
