Research & Teaching Interests

Professor Cuervo-Cazurra studies the internationalization of firms, with a special interest in emerging market multinationals, capability upgrading, particularly technological capabilities, and governance issues, focusing on corruption in international business. His research appears in leading academic journals, such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, and Research Policy. He teaches courses on global strategy and sustainability at the undergraduate, masters, executive and Ph.D. levels, and has provided executive training to managers on how to internationalize their firms successfully.

Industry & Academic Experience

Professor Cuervo-Cazurra is the Lloyd Mullin Fellow at Northeastern University. Before joining Northeastern University he was a faculty member at the University of South Carolina and the University of Minnesota and a visiting professor at Cornell University. He has taught at universities around the world such as FGV and FDC in Brazil, INCAE in Costa Rica, Moterrey Tec and IPADE in Mexico, University of Valencia and Salamanca University in Spain, Thammasat University in Thailand and WU in Austria.

Services to the Profession

Professor Cuervo-Cazurra is Co-Editor of Global Strategy Journal. He was the reviewing editor of the Journal of International Business Studies and has served on the editorial boards of other leading journals, such as Academy of Management Review and Strategic Management Journal. He was elected to the Executive Committee of the Academy of Management's International Management Division for 2012-2017 and as Representative-at-Large of the Strategic Management Society's Global Strategy Group for 2006-8. He has served as Track Chair at the Academy of International Business Annual Meetings in 2003, 2011, and 2019.
