The Center for Emerging Markets (CEM) at Northeastern University's D'Amore-McKim School of Business is a leading research hub on how local and foreign firms can leverage emerging markets for the global good.  

Founded in 2007 by Ravi Ramamurti, University Distinguished Professor of International Business & Strategy, CEM operates in three distinct areas, including a robust research agenda; significant work to influence business practitioners; and educational activities designed to prepare the next generation of business leaders.

Insights @ Center for Emerging Markets

Insights @ Center for Emerging Markets is a publication focused on cutting-edge ideas and advice for global leaders about emerging markets. It draws on the innovative research on emerging markets carried out by our faculty at Northeastern University and the broader academic community.

Our fourth issue, exploring the topic of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in emerging markets, was released in December 2023.

The fifth issue of Insights is set to be released in May 2024.

Srinivasan Family Awards for Projects in Emerging Markets

The Center for Emerging Markets invites grant proposals from undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in full-time programs at Northeastern University to create a startup, take part in a service-learning project, present or publish research, organize a conference, or pursue another innovative project that addresses pressing problems in one or more emerging markets around the world in a novel and/or innovative way.

CEM accepts applications on a rolling basis each semester. Students may submit applications for the Spring award cycle from February 19 – April 5, 2024. Decisions will be made in mid-April.

Ravi Ramamurti

Ravi Ramamurti, University Distinguished Professor and Founding Director of the Center for Emerging Markets, has published eight books on strategy and innovation in emerging markets and several award-winning articles on these topics. He was elected a fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) in 2008 and currently serves as Deputy Dean of the AIB Fellows.
