Costa Rica - Agricultural Focus

This program consists of a partnership between Northeastern and EARTH University. EARTH University is an international agricultural university that teaches sustainable practices. It is located in Guácimo, Costa Rica on an 8,000 acre estate 40 miles east of the capital city of San Jose. For more information on EARTH University click here.

Students attend classes that incorporate calculating carbon footprints, eco-effectiveness, how local businesses succeed, and sustainability of the food chain. They have the opportunity to take on projects that will strengthen both their education and the local community. The program is designed to give students the knowledge and skills to help businesses understand and act upon the principles of sustainability and to gain a deeper understanding about the relationships between business, society and the environment in the Latin American context.

The program is centered on the Guácimo campus with field trips to other parts of the country. Students experience much of what Costa Rica has to offer. The Caribbean Coast has lush vegetation, mountains and white sand beaches, world-class fishing, bird watching, horseback riding and all types of water activities. The Pacific Coast is known for its high caliber beaches and is famous for its surfing, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, and nearby wildlife refuges and national parks.

Northeastern University students enroll in two courses and earn eight semester credits by participating in this program.
