Strategic Execution & Organizational Change

Help your leaders master the frameworks and skills necessary to implement corporate strategy at the business unit level. Programs in this arena will typically provide a deep appreciation for industry dynamics, competitive and global contexts, and the strategic opportunities and challenges they create. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance your mid- to senior-level managers’ skills for conducting strategic analyses and effective implementation within their groups and with partners in other units.

Sample Content

  • Understanding the firm’s strategic imperatives
  • Linking strategy to environmental changes and competitive pressures
  • The difference between strategic decision-making and operational decision-making
  • Developing a strategic thinking perspective
  • Frameworks and tools for ensuring successful strategy execution
  • How to align “hard” systems (structure, compensation, measurements and controls) and “soft” systems (relationships, responsibilities, understanding of roles, collaboration)

Possible Delivery Methods

Modules and methods range from executive briefings to multi-day, cross-functional, immersive “boot camps.” Virtual delivery options are available as well. An increasingly-popular option is to create a customized graduate certificate by bundling existing D’Amore-McKim MBA courses and tailoring some of their content to your firm’s specific context.

Case Study: US and Asia Pacific Action-Based Director Development

The Client:
A global technology firm headquartered in MetroWest, known for its pace and ‘challenge culture’

Business Need:
The client wished to build upon their existing corporate management development curriculum and provide further challenge to high-potential Directors. Reflecting the culture of this fast-paced firm, the development experience was also expected to generate quick returns for the organization and the participants.

The program design addressed real-time global business challenges (identified by the participants in the context of the program) using a unique Action Tank/Task Force approach. This created a powerful learning experience for the Director population while also providing the genesis of solutions to critical strategic issues.

Of Note:
This program was successfully delivered with four sessions in the US and in Beijing, with ratings for “overall learning” and “effectiveness of session” at 4.8 of 5. The Financial Acumen content was both highly-rated and consistently commented favorably upon; we see this repeated in each technology firm where we include that important subject matter.

Case Study: Aligning Business Units and Leaders to Exploit the Strategy Fully

The Client: A rapidly growing developer/operator of luxury shopping malls in the Middle East

Business Need:
Executive leadership needed their Division heads to significantly build both business and team leadership skills so that organizational silos could be broken down. The second business driver was an imperative to build the ‘succession bench’ among the Division heads.

Our faculty designed a highly interactive cross-Divisional program addressing Strategy, Market Segmentation, Competitive Advantage, Financial Management, Strategic Problem-Solving, Leading Change, and Personal Leadership.

Of Note:
“What has been most valuable for me has been applying the various frameworks we’ve learned to my real business situations.”- Participant.
