Full-Time MBA

Q: What do you do in your current job/what are your responsibilities?

A: I am a Senior Consultant with IBM. I work on internal consulting engagements that require large scale organizational change. This typically involves re-aligning our organization, re-defining how IBM works, and communicating changes to tens of thousands of IBMers.

Q: What skills did you build in the D’Amore-McKim MBA in Finance program that you are currently using on the job?

A: Creating fit for purpose analytical models is a critical skill that I use on every one of my engagements. The case study learning approach of the Full-Time MBA has also been very useful, as it allows me to quickly assess a business situation and diagnose key issues.

Q: What would you say to a colleague considering enrolling in the MBA in Finance program?

A: Getting my MBA at D'Amore-McKim was by far the best career move I've made. Using their network, I was able to land interviews I never could have gotten on my own, and accelerated my career by 5-7 years conservatively.  This was on top of all of the skills I honed in the classroom.

Q: Why did you choose the D’Amore-McKim School of Business MBA in Finance program?

A: At the time I was considering MBA programs, I was simply underemployed.  Picking a school with a strong Career Services track record was front and center in my decision making process. D'Amore-McKim seemed like a great fit for this, and is particularly well known for Finance.

Q: What was your biggest take-away from earning your MBA in Finance at Northeastern?

A: Understand your personal value proposition in the workforce. You should be able to simply state what current and future benefits you will provide to a prospective employer.

Q: What are you doing now and how did the MBA in Finance help you get there?

A: I'm currently working in Manhattan working on a project that reports to several of my company's Senior Vice Presidents. As to how I got here, my first IBM interview was on Northeastern's campus for a corporate residency role as a Strategy Analyst. I was able to showcase myself well enough to receive a full-time offer. An MBA is a very powerful degree for my chosen field of consulting, and the Finance concentration helped provide a strong analytical background.
