"The professors who teach in the program have a lot of experience in the business and technology worlds, allowing them to bring their real-world knowledge into the classroom..."

Q:What skills are you building in the D'Amore-McKim MSTE program that you will use in your future career?

A:There are three skills that I have been building throughout my time in the MSTE program. First, I am developing my overall entrepreneurial skills. As an entrepreneur, you need to have certain abilities in order to achieve your goals, such as planning, decision-making, communication skills, and recognizing opportunities. Second, I am learning how to work in a cross-functional team effectively, since my project teams consist of people from various educational background and job fields. Last but not least, networking. When I start a new venture in the future, I know I can reach out to one of my classmates or any of the MSTE alumni for assistance.

Q:What would you say to a colleague considering enrolling in the MSTE program?

A:I would say “go for it!” The MSTE program is a great field of study for those looking for the very specific knowledge needed to help start-up companies grow and for those looking to turn new technologies into marketable products and services. Every week there are interesting case studies that act as tools to boost our creative thinking. These case studies help us think outside of the box and allow us to see an issue from various angles, skills we will likely use when launching companies or marketing new products.

Q:Why did you choose the D'Amore-McKim MSTE?

A:I chose the D’Amore-McKim MSTE program because I found it to be so unique compared to other majors. Northeastern University also has one of the best venture accelerators in IDEA. This organization supports students who are currently developing a business by providing resources and helps them grow their business. The professors who teach in the program have a lot of experience in the business and technology worlds, allowing them to bring their real-world knowledge into the classroom, something I have found to be very beneficial.

Q:What has been your biggest take-away from earning your MSTE at Northeastern so far?

A:My biggest take-away so far is the importance of collaborative work. Coming from a science background, I am used to finding that most solutions are exact. Because of this, it was difficult for me to share my opinions to my group when we first began our projects. However, as group meetings became more frequent, I learned that group work will lead to higher quality work results. This program and my fellow classmates have showed me that there are many possible pathways to solve a problem in business and that the answer is not always exact.

Q:Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A:In 5 or 10 years, I see myself owning a business that features a new product that is unique to the market, one that people never thought they needed before. My passions are in science and technology, so I hope to combine those with my new venture.
