"I wanted to study at a top tier university with a strong academic reputation and an involved team in the Career Center. The D’Amore-McKim School of Business ticked all of the boxes."
Q:What skills are you building in the D'Amore-McKim MS in Finance (MSF) program that you will use in your future career?
A:The D’Amore-McKim MSF program has helped me learn the basics behind the language of finance. Coming from a Mathematics and Economics background I had very little grasp on finance and the sometimes confusing terminology behind it. The combination of Investment Analysis and Financial Theory and Policy classes has really helped me understand the fundamental concepts upon which modern finance is built. This strong base will be crucial for me to continue developing my financial skill set before beginning my career on the trading floor.
Q:What would you say to a colleague considering enrolling in the MSF program?
A:I would say that the MSF program is challenging and intense but worth all of the effort I have put in so far. In a very short period of time it has given me the confidence and financial skills I was lacking to be competitive in the growing U.S. job market. It is also one of the rare programs that I can say truly puts the individual students’ career first. Starting from day one all of the students in the program not only have access to top notch professors but also benefit from personal attention from the Graduate Career Center.
Q:Why did you choose the D'Amore-McKim MSF?
A:I wanted to study at a top tier university with a strong academic reputation and an involved team in the Career Center. The D’Amore-McKim School of Business ticked all of the boxes. Its MSF program is ranked inside the top 25 programs in the country, and The program includes a career management class from the very first day that enables students to be in the best possible position for employment come graduation. For me it was a no brainer.
Q:What has been your biggest take-away from earning your MSF at Northeastern so far?
A:Talking to the faculty has really helped me understand the differences between the various components of finance and has helped me find a place within the industry where I could be challenged and use my background to be successful.
Q:Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A:In 5 to 10 years I see myself having spent a couple of years working as a trader before enhancing my education and skill set with an MBA and transferring into Venture Capital, Private Equity, or a Hedge Fund. My long term goal is to open my own financial investment firm.

"The MSF program allowed me to further my understanding of finance beyond the parameters of my job and also ask the questions that helped me pursue specific interests that I have within finance." — James Begen, MSF'15
