"The people that surround me every day are just as eager to learn and develop their careers as I am. Being around people who are of the same mentality pushes me to really challenge myself."
Q:What skills are you building in the D'Amore-McKim MSA program that you will use in your future career?
A:The D’Amore-McKim MSA program was created to provide students the opportunity to get the most out of their graduate degree. Most of my classes only meet once or twice a week. This type of structure has really sharpened my time management and self-motivation skills. While the lectures provide me with a deeper understanding of accounting concepts, it is up to me to take initiative and properly prepare for class. Whether it is reading a few chapters from a textbook every week, or getting a head start on the final project, I have learned to maintain a schedule that allows me to absorb the most from the MSA program.
Q:Why did you choose the D'Amore-McKim MSA?
A:I like change and constant movement. I am always looking for something to keep me busy. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with my school to create an accelerated program. This plan incorporated my two majors, accounting and finance, into three-years. I was constantly working to achieve my goal of graduating early and I loved every minute of it. I knew the D’Amore-McKim MSA program was the perfect next step to advance my career at the pace that I have already set for myself. The three semesters built into the MSA program can be completed as quickly as seven months. It is a great match for students who are interested in beginning their career as soon as possible, but would also like to take their education to the next level.
Q:What has been your biggest take-away from earning your MSA at Northeastern so far?
A:The MSA program at Northeastern sets a truly professional environment for students. My fellow classmates seem more like colleagues. Everyone in the program actually wants to be there. The people that surround me every day are just as eager to learn and develop their careers as I am. Being around people who are of the same mentality pushes me to really challenge myself.
Q:Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A:I believe that people should do what they love and love what they do. Traveling and experiencing other cultures are substantial parts of my life. In five to ten years, I see myself using my accounting experience to work internationally. I would either like to work for a public accounting firm for various clients all around the world, or live abroad for a few years. I am currently interested in working in some place I have never been before, such as Germany or Sweden.
