PTMBA Healthcare Management Track (Anticipated 2017)

Q: What skills are you building in the D'Amore-McKim PTMBA program that you will use in your future career?

A: As an Applications Specialist at MEDITECH for 5.5 years I have been able to gain an understanding about how hospitals across the country operate. By specializing in Healthcare Management in the D'Amore-McKim MBA program I have been able gain a broad perspective, but more importantly a better understanding of the healthcare industry. I will take issues relevant to my work at MEDITECH, such as Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and controlling healthcare costs, and offer solutions to hospitals based on concepts I have explored during class.

Q: What would you say to a colleague considering enrolling in the PTMBA program?

A: The program has taught me to keep an open mind, as there are many different areas of the healthcare industry. The D'Amore-McKim MBA in Healthcare Management offers many different classes that help you target your particular interest. The American healthcare industry cannot be solved overnight; however, the professors come from various backgrounds that help students see a bigger picture and show students industry trends.

Q: Why did you choose the D'Amore-McKim PTMBA?

A: I have been working in a healthcare technology company that has allowed me to see how hospitals operate and I was drawn to the D'Amore-McKim MBA in Healthcare Management as a lot of the classes fell in line with what I do everyday. For example, the D'Amore-McKim MBA in Healthcare Management allowed me to take classes from their Healthcare Informatics program.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: I hope to take the broad knowledge of the healthcare industry I learned at D'Amore-McKim and the work experience I gained at MEDITECH to consult for a single hospital or region of hospitals, for example, hospitals in Boston.
