MBA'17, Entrepreneurship Track

"I helped spur tremendous growth in the business while on my residence and took a full-time leadership role in the company upon the completion of my MBA."

Q:Where is your hometown?

A:Norfolk, MA

Q:What are you studying at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business and what is your graduation year?

A:MBA - Entrepreneurship Career Track - 2017 Graduation

Q:What do/did you do in your corporate residency? What are/were your responsibilities? How did you impact the business?

A:I worked at ButcherBox.com, a Cambridge, MA startup and the leading source of 100% grass-fed beef online. I helped spur tremendous growth in the business while on my residence and took a full-time leadership role in the company upon the completion of my MBA.

Q:What skills are you building at D’Amore-McKim that you are using in your corporate residency or will use in your future career?

A:The MBA gives you the skills and confidence to solve real world business problems when you are confronted with them. The entrepreneurship track courses give you the planning and analysis skills it takes to scale a business.

Q:What has been the biggest take-away from working toward your MBA at Northeastern? What can you do today that you couldn't do before you started your MBA?

A:Finishing your MBA with a full-time job is the take-away all full-time students hope for, but it’s the experience and knowledge you acquire along the way that makes the journey worthwhile. I came to school apprehensive about tackling accounting, but it turned out to be one of the most challenging and rewarding classes.

Q:What has been your most valuable experience so far?

A:The six month corporate residency provides real-world experience and the opportunity to earn a salary while in school that you don’t find at other programs. D’Amore-McKim also provides international exposure - through an overseas consulting project, a team based approach, and faculty with real-world experience.

Q:Why did you choose D'Amore-McKim?

A:D’Amore-McKim is firmly anchored in Boston’s business community, but has an entrepreneurial spirit, and a global reach.

Q:What would you say to a prospective student considering D’Amore-McKim for their business degree?

A:Consider your goals, where you feel you stand to benefit from getting your MBA and strengths D’Amore-McKim has to offer. For me it was an easy choice when I saw the synergies.

Q:Where do you see yourself in 5 - 10 years?

A:I plan to leave school with the skills to launch the next phase of my career in a leadership role at ButcherBox and the knowledge that entrepreneurial businesses move at such a fast pace. It's hard to predict 5 years down the road, but I can say this has all been wonderful and now I’m on my way.

Q:How has D’Amore-McKim helped you to become more?

A:The perspectives of learning team members from 5 continents, professors with experience working in the highest levels of their industry, and consulting for a global leader like IBM in South America.
