"I can say as a fact that I would not be in the role I am today if I did not make the decision to join the MBA program here at Northeastern. My career has leapfrogged and I feel well prepared and excited to see what the future holds."
Watch this video featuring Erin and her classmates describing the Full-Time MBA student experience. "Doing an MBA program is this unique thing that you do with your cohort."
Q: What did you do in your current job? What are your responsibilities?
A: I am currently an MBA Intern in Global Consumer Insights at Hasbro. My responsibilities include helping managing our global communities, and searching for insights to help global brand teams develop products, concepts, and advertising.
Q: What skills did you build in the D’Amore McKim MBA program that you are applying at your current job?
A: D’Amore-McKim’s case focused curriculum has been very helpful and has taught me new ways of thinking. In class we would be taught a framework and then would apply it to different case studies. Now armed with an arsenal of frameworks from various different classes, I have found that these frameworks allow me to critically think about business decisions and help me analyze these situations to the best of my ability.
Additionally, one of the most important soft skills I learned at the D’Amore McKim MBA program was networking best practices. This has become important because I have networked and connected with other employees to learn more about their job and their role within the company.
Q: What would you say to a collegue considering enrolling in the MBA program?
A: Do it! There are of course so many external factors that make the idea of pausing your life for two years to go back to school a hard concept to grasp, but it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. In this program I have learned practical knowledge, made connections at networking events, made lifelong friends, and I feel confident that when I graduate from this program I will have plenty of career opportunities. I can say as a fact that I would not be in the role I am today if I did not make the decision to join the MBA program here at Northeastern. My career has leapfrogged and I feel well prepared and excited to see what the future holds.
Q: Why did you choose the D’Amore-McKim?
A: As a career changer, the prospect of having a 6-month corporate residency was extremely important to me and played a large role in my decision. Since I did not have much formal marketing experience prior to coming to the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, I wanted to make sure that upon graduation I would have not only knowledge from marketing classes, but practical real world experience in marketing and an opportunity to showcase my new skills and expertise in a formal role. The 6-month corporate residency was the perfect way for me to do so.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
A: Excellent question. At the moment I am halfway done with the program, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the vast amount of career options and job options that exist, specifically in the marketing world. I have really enjoyed my time so far working in consumer insights, but I also know that the second half of the program will expose me to even more opportunities that I may not have thought about for myself. That being said, whatever I decide to pursue I know that I will have the full support of the faculty, staff, and career center to help me translate my dreams and aspirations to a career path that I enjoy.
