Kirby Sundquist

MSA/MBA 2016

Q: What skills are you building in the D'Amore-McKim MSA/MBA program that you will use in your future career?

A: The MSA/MBA program has provided me with a combination of not only the technical accounting skills that I will need to begin my professional accounting career but more importantly, has further developed my professional networks and interpersonal skills.

Q: What would you say to a colleague considering enrolling in the MSA/MBA program?

A: I would say that this is a phenomenal way to get a top-notch accelerated education in both professional accounting and general business. The way the MSA/MBA program is structured allows someone without any accounting experience to gain the skills needed to launch a career in professional accounting. However, it goes beyond that and combines it with additional business courses to ensure each student gets a well-rounded education.

Q: Why did you choose the D'Amore-McKim MSA/MBA?

A: I choose the MSA/MBA program for numerous reasons. First, it seemed like the best program in the country for someone with a non-accounting background to launch a career in professional accounting. Additionally, I found the 100% internship placement and the 98% job placement rate to be extremely attractive. Finally, I grew up in and around Boston and my Dad went to Northeastern so it was just a great overall fit for me.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: Five years from now I see myself continuing in the field of public accounting in a managerial role. My background before entering the MSA/MBA program was in IT sales so beyond five years, I would ultimately like to get back into the tech world and work with a tech startup as a controller or CFO.
